Too little or too much rain spells bad news for farm land. We may well see the massive crop failures that have recently hit Northern Africa happening in other parts of the world too.
Changes in temperature as well as rain fall – especially in the tropics – will have a big impact on crop growth.
Flooding will have a major impact on low lying farm lands, drowning the crops.
All these things could mean a shortage of food in the future.
The more of the sun’s energy trapped in our atmosphere – the more erratic the earth’s weather systems will become. The timing of seasons, temperature, rain fall etc. will all be interrupted – causing havoc to crops.
The most vulnerable developing countries will be affected first as they rely heavily on climate-sensitive activities like agriculture and they have less money to adapt to changes.
