The second in tonight’s live blogging. Check out the video at www.barackobama.com 6:19 pm PST “Many have waited for some sign that our country is awakening again,” Gore is saying. “What would it look like if such a change were beginning to build?” And guess what, he’s talking about us again: “Millions of young peopel getting [...]The second in tonight’s live blogging. Live Blogging Gore’s Endorsement: Fighting for Tomatoes

Al Gore looks like he’s down to fighting weight tonight and is coming out swinging during tonight’s endorsement of Barack Obama. A good opening riff on being a citizen of the world, but now it’s back to traditional politics for a bit. 6:13 PST It’s all praise for John McCain for a bit, but now a quick [...]Al Gore looks like he’s down to fighting weight tonight and is coming out swinging during tonight’s endorsement of Barack Obama. Live Blogging Gore’s Endorsement: “What does it mean: Jobs!”

After a short intro from basketball star, Chauncy Billups, the Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, is now onstage at the Obama rally tonight where Al Gore will give his endorsement. She got my attention by doing a riff talking about green jobs. It’s her whole speech. “What do hybrid cars mean for Michigan?” she’s yelling. “Jobs!” [...]After a short intro from basketball star, Chauncy Billups, the Governor of Michigan, Jennifer Granholm, is now onstage at the Obama rally tonight where Al Gore will give his endorsement. Rebuild Iowa and Other Clean Energy News

Last summer we marched to Re-Energize Iowa. This summer, lets mobilize around re-building Iowa. Calls from Governor Culver to rebuild focused on mobilizing federal money and emphasizing safety. Excellent, that will make our work easier! We can help, lending the vision for building a better world and the energy to put ourselves in [...]Last summer we marched to Re-Energize Iowa. Coal Train stopped and occupied in UK!

Sometimes, we all get a little caught up in talking and arguing about politics and our movement. Some people recognize that merely talking (or blogging) about problems and solutions and ideas is not enough - and if we are to build a better world we need to act. Politicians, industry, and corporations have and [...]Sometimes, we all get a little caught up in talking and arguing about politics and our movement. Climate Change’s Guinness Books

As the Beijing Olympics approach, a whole lot of people are thinking about breaking records. Shaving off one-one hundredth of a second of a record race time, for example. But I’ve got a few different kinds of records on my mind - precipitation and flooding. This year, Delhi broke records with its rainfall in May, ending [...]As the Beijing Olympics approach, a whole lot of people are thinking about breaking records. [Written in collaboration with Rachel Barge, Alisha Fowler, Lindsey Franklin, and Jesse Jenkins.] Over the past few days, controversy has been stirred up on “It’s Getting Hot In Here” over a number of posts written by members of Breakthrough Generation, a new progressive youth organization founded by the Breakthrough Institute. Making it Happen - the Summer of Solutions

“Summer of Solutions” – I first heard these words from my friend Ashley Trull, from across the table in the Clark University dining hall in late April, over plates piled high with mediocre vegan cafeteria food. Summer of Solutions sounded like an amazing program, designed by and for students, working on exciting, real projects [...]“Summer of Solutions” – I first heard these words from my friend Ashley Trull, from across the table in the Clark University dining hall in late April, over plates piled high with mediocre vegan cafeteria food. RAND (not RAN) Study of Future Environmental Networks

A friend of mine found this RAND Corp. study from 2005 and recently passed it along. It’s a very wild scenario. The government and their think tanks are spending their time thinking about evolving organizing models and the future of our movements [I wish we spent more time on that and less time on divisive [...]A friend of mine found this RAND Corp. study from 2005 and recently passed it along. On Hippies, Rainforest Action Network, and The O.C.

Lately, for (ahem) strictly professional reasons, I’ve been watching the recently-concluded teen drama The O.C.. I’d heard a rumor that RAN — or at least our logo — makes a cameo in the series, and I set about trying to find it. (Season four, episode five at 20:17, in case you’re wondering; see image). The experience, [...]Lately, for (ahem) strictly professional reasons, I’ve been watching the recently-concluded teen drama The O.C..
