A small but select band gathered in Peckham on 12 March to find out more about how to make their own film on Climate Change. Here's there report of the day...
We started off the day by looking into climate change, what an earth it’s all about, how it will affect us here in London and the UK.
We also learnt about the solutions to climate change, how we can undo the problem, and why we all need to play our part. One of the best activities was building a climate tree. We started off thinking about the ‘roots’ and causes of climate change, things that produce a lot of greenhouse gases, like cars, flying food around the world and farting cows (which produces Methane – a powerful greenhouse gas).
We then looked at the trunk of the tree, the effects, what happens if we have too much greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. But then came the final stage, the leaves of the tree, which symbolise the actions that we can take to try and cut down our greenhouse gases. We thought of loads of easy things which we could do tackle climate change.
Once we had looked into the issue a bit more we started thinking about how we could best communicate it to other people. We came up with messages about climate change which would make them listen and put them into a story board, which is a map of how we were going to put our story and messages into a film.
Then came the action part! We all went out and about to film our stories, we managed to get cyclists to show that getting around without pumping out carbon emissions is fun. We filmed dark looming clouds to show that the weather in the UK is changing because of climate change and 6 easy steps to tackling the problem.
Then all we had to do was edit the footage on a computer, which sounds easy but needs some skill, and takes a lot longer than you think. We put in effects, voiceovers, credits, sped things up, slowed things down and cut out all the bits which people giggled in...and there we have it – a climate change film!
