Party for the Planet

Party for the Planet was held on Saturday 7th July; a fun day for everyone to come together and help make a difference.

There were activities, performers, games, music, interactive instillations, people and stalls on how we can tackle climate change. It was a celebration of the planet we live on and how important it is that we take care of it.

At the party we had....

Battle of the Bands taking place on the Main stage keeping everyone entertained

The Craft area showing people how to re-use, recycle and use low-impact materials to create useful and interesting objects

  • Plastic bag weaving
  • Henna
  • Hair braids

  • Face painting
  • Make your own cosmetics
  • Street art
  • Climate change message tree
  • Eco-fashion jewellery
  • Re-invent clothes

The Performance area was an opportunity for creative expression of the climate change message in our performance area

  • Renewably powered cinema - showed series of short films about climate change in the comfort of our solar cinema tent
  • Drama - there were drama workshops culminating in a piece of street theatre to warn the world about global warming
  • Storytellers - Eric Madden and others entranced people with their environmentally-friendly yarns

Stalls area – information stalls provided by lots of other organisations who are trying to do something to stop climate change - a great place to find out more.

Small children’s area (inc lost children’s point) provides low-impact fun and games for little ones including:

  • Mini crafts
  • Circus skills
  • Co-operative games
  • Tree/seed planting
  • Nature trail/quiz

Debate area - a space for discussion and debate with speakers and interactive workshops looking deeper into the politics of climate change.

  • Join in the mock trial where the world's carbon villains are in the dock
  • Speaker’s Corner - your chance to get up and make your voice heard
  • One minute debates - come and join in the arguements about the best way to save the planet.

Information area – Displays and exhibitions on climate change – its causes and impacts accompanied by activities.

  • Renewable energy display - our 'Power Pod' demonstrated how renewable energy can be put to work in a variety of daily tasks
  • Face Your Elephant - do you know how much an elephant weighs? We you put about 2 elephants worth of carbon into the atmosphere every year.
  • Climate:Mobile - our brand new carbon calculator for your own mobile phone was distributed
  • NSEW exhibition - showed the effects of climate change around the world and try our quiz.
  • The House - our model house allowed people to test out how they could make their lifestyle more climate friendly.
