Ideas for interesting places to visit.

Age Range: Any

Sometimes we learn much more by actually seeing and doing something, rather than just reading or hearing about it. There are all sorts of places you can visit to learn and appreciate more about sustainability. Here are a few suggestions:

Visit a forest
Be silent and listen to the sounds around you. Take time to really look at the trees and plants growing. Remember the phrase: Take only photographs, leave only footprints, keep only memories.

Visit a rubbish tip or a recycling plant
Observe all the different things we throw away. Think about how we could reduce our waste. Find out what can be made out of the recycled waste.

Visit a renewable energy site (a wind farm, a Hydro-electric Dam, a building with solar panels)
Find out how energy is made from renewable sources.

Visit a low impact building
Some buildings are designed to have a lower impact on the environment, through the materials they are made from, the energy they use, and the way they are insulated. Find out if there is a building near where you live that has tried to follow these ideas
