Money, money, money

Have you ever thought about what you would do if you suddenly had a lot of money?

Aim: to express visually the variety of lifestyle choices that exist, particularly in the Western world, and the impact they have on the global environment.

Age group: Any

Number of participants: Any

Time required: flexible, perhaps over more than one day.

Resources needed: various magazines, advert fliers, wrappers, photos, objects (that can stick on a surface).

What to do:

Create a collage that expresses something about the lifestyle choices we make (how we live) which harm the environment or are unsustainable. A collage uses images and sometimes some words, arranged in a particular way to make an impact or express something artistically.

You could do it in groups, pairs, or individually.

This activity involves a lot of independent creativity and hence there is little prescription needed about what to include, but some might like to consider:

  • Use of symbols to represent things;
  • Making it visually interesting – colours, reflective surfaces, textures;
  • Minimal use of words.
