Climate change conference

To consider how different countries are responding to climate change

Age group: 13+

How long will it take: 1 hour (plus preparation time)

What will you need: group of people, research materials

Aim of the activity: You are holding an imaginary 'International Conference on Climate Change'. The conference needs to discuss what action should be taken to deal with climate change.

What to do:

Divide up into groups to represent different countries. Choose which country you would like to be. Make sure you include some richer and poorer countries, and small island nations.

Each group should carry out some research to find out what the country they are representing thinks about Climate Change, and what they are doing to tackle it. How much has your country contributed towards the problem? What are the likely impacts going to be on your country? What action can you take to reduce the causes and the impacts? Will you take responsibility for helping other countries, or will you need help?

Before your 'conference' decide how the meeting will run. You may want to set an agenda of items to discuss, or actions to vote on.

Afterwards you should share the outcomes of your conference on the Global Village website.
